Capuchins in Switzerland, whose numbers are diminishing, are seeking some help from the classifieds to help fill their ranks.Monks

The BBC reports:

The Capuchin order says it is looking for professional single men like bankers or lawyers aged 22 to 35 to join its dwindling ranks.

The Capuchin order - one of the Franciscan orders - is calling for young Catholic 'bankers, journalists, teachers, theologians, tradesmen, lawyers, communication specialists' to consider joining the order.

Applicants should be independent yet capable of communal living, curious and show initiative, the ad says.

"We offer you no pay, but spirituality and prayer, contemplation, an egalitarian lifestyle, free of personal material riches and the common model of a couple relationship," it says.

Will be interesting to see if the campaign attracts any candidates.

A minor correction: Capuchins are FRIARS, not monks.

I guess the Apostles do not qualify as no one considered them professionals. I guess Luke the Evangelist, the physician, might get consideration. What is the "common model of a couple relationship?" Strange ad indeed.

The full story by the BBC is very clear: ''Adverts for craftsmen, technicians and men in social professions are to follow, a spokesman for the order said.'' So we have the following story a) a monastic order decides to advertize for new recruits, no news there b) it designs different ads for different publics - intelligent move.

Is there any excuse for petty comments?
