Results continue to come in, but they are uneven. Earlier actual results indicated that the Conservatives were heading for an overall majority. Yet the Tories are having trouble in the southwest of England wresting seats form the Liberal Democrats. The Tory advance may have been checked in the southwest and the exit poll may be holding. The levels of Liberal Democrat support, though not what they had hoped for, has still made it harder for the Tories to win the seats they need to form a government. Meanwhile, Gordon Brown has addressed his constituency, thanking them for his victory (in the constituency, not nationally) and speaking of his commitment to achieving a stable government. It had the feel of a valedictory speech. He looked exhausted.
