David Gibson, former Vatican radio correspondent and author of "The Coming Catholic Church" and "The Rule of Benedict" has recently been invited to begin a new blog on Beliefnet. Gibson (full disclosure: a good friend) is (full disclosure: this would be true whether or not he’s a friend) one of the best religion journalists around and, unlike a lot of bloggers, has the benefit of actually knowing what he’s talking about. Also, unlike other bloggers, he’s an actual reporter, and so gives information instead of just spin. For some of the former, check out his latest post, which includes an interview with Bishop Geoffrey Robinson, the retired Australian bishop currently in hot water for his new book, "Confronting Sex and Power in the Catholic Church." (Robinson had been a few weeks ago barred from speaking in the L.A. archdiocese.) Gibson’s voice, moderate, cautious and smart, promises to be a boon to the Catholic blogosphere.
