Readers in the New York area who are interested in the dialogue between faith and reason will appreciate a conference happening this week at Fordham University's Rose Hill campus.  The conference includes 120 invited faculty and staff of the twelve East Coast Jesuit colleges and universities (Boston College, Holy Cross, Fairfield, LeMoyne, Canisius, Fordham, St. Peter's, Scranton, St. Joseph's, Wheeling Jesuit, Loyola Maryland and Georgetown).  Organized by the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture, the conference is titled "Faith and Reason 2009: A Dialogue at the Heart of Jesuit Education."

While breakout sessions, receptions and meals are restricted to official invitees, members and friends of the Fordham community are invited to attend four keynote presentations, all of which will be held in Fordham's Keating Hall.  It's an impressive lineup (you can see the whole schedule at the conference Web site here).

Tuesday, June 16, 4:15 pm: Charles Taylor, "Reason and Its Adventures Since the Enlightenment"

Wednesday, June 17, 9:30 am:  John O'Malley, S.J., "Reason in Four Cultures: the Prophetic, the Analytic/Scientific, the Humanistic, the Artistic/Performative"

Wednesday, June 17, 2:30 pm: Michael Himes, "Faith and its Adventures Since the Enlightenment"

Thursday, June 18, 9:30 am: Christine Wiseman, "Reason and Faith, Character and Service"

Jim Keane, S.J.

This conference and other's at Fordham which I've seen advertised as open to the public sound like a wonderful opportunity; sure wish I was close enough to attend; which brings up this point: when will organizations reach the point where forums and conferences could just be observed online by checking into a web cam? Or, does this happen and I just don't know about it?
